
Facebook has started integrating Instagram and messenger chats in an effort to allow cross-messaging among its apps and integrating all services into a single cross-platform. This feature is available on both iOS and Android users.
According to The Verge, the new update comes with a message, “There is a New Way to Message on Instagram.” Once you hit the update the DM icon gets replaced by the Messenger icon. There are other features as well with this update such as colorful appearance for chats with the use of blue and purple color for the sender’s message, emoji reactions, and swipe to reply to messages.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been long planning the unification of messaging features among its family of apps, i.e WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger platforms. It has already integrated messenger rooms with WhatsApp on the Web and allows its users to do group video calls up to 50 people with no time limit through WhatsApp on desktop. The unification is expected to make communication easier among the users such that they can message each other without leaving any of the apps.
Facebook had acquired Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014. Since then, the world of social media has started experiencing a variety of changes and is believed to help the billions of users.
The new update on Instagram has started rolling out to users in India.
