Recently, US President Joe Biden accused social media platforms like ‘Facebook’ for spreading ‘misinformation’. He further claimed that this ‘misinformation’ are ‘killing people’. On Saturday, ‘Facebook’ in a move to defend itself notified that the facts tells a different story.
The social media platform in a corporate blog post by Guy Rosen stated, “The data shows that 85 per cent of Facebook users in the US have been or want to be vaccinated against COVID 19.” “President Biden’s goal was for 70 per cent of Americans to be vaccinated by July 4. Facebook is not the reason this goal was missed,” the blog post added.
As far as the reports are concerned, it is considered that the social media platforms namely Facebook, Twitter and Alphabet Inc-owned YouTube are responsible for spreading misinformation during the pandemic. Lawmakers and Researchers too blamed ‘Facebook’ of failing to police harmful content on its platforms.
Apart from these allegations, the company has introduced rules against making specific false claims about COVID 19 and vaccines. Furthermore, it claimed that it facilitate people with reliable information on these topics.
‘Reuters’ quoted Biden who on being asked about misinformation on social media like ‘Facebook’ told to the reporters, “They are killing people. Look, the only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated. And they are killing people.”
