Deepika Padukone, an Indian actress, has announced her departure from MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Image). She used Instagram to inform her fans that she had agreed to resign as the organization’s chairperson.
Deepika wrote in her note, “Being on the board of MAMI and serving as Chairperson has been a deeply enriching experience. As an artist it was invigorating to bring together cinema and talent from all over the world to Mumbai, my second home.
“I have come to realise however, that with my current slate of work, I will be unable to give MAMI the undivided focus and attention it requires. I depart knowing that MAMI is in the best hands possible and that my bond and connection with the academy is one that will last a lifetime.”
In 2019, Deepika succeeded filmmaker Kiran Rao as the chairperson of MAMI. Deepika had described her new role as “huge responsibility.” “It is both an honour and a tremendous responsibility. I believe in MAMI’s mission, and we are dedicated to building a culture that cinema lovers and creators in a film-obsessed country like ours truly deserve,” she had said.
The actress is currently working on Pathan alongside Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham. She will also appear in her first film, Fighter, with Hrithik Roshan, as well as a film with Prabhas.
Deepika recently invited Amitabh Bachchan to The Intern. The film is a revival of the same-named Hollywood hit by Nancy Meyers. Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro starred in the original. The film was originally set to star Rishi Kapoor, but Amitabh joined the cast after Rishi died last year.
