At Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 keynote, the tech giant unveiled iOS 18, the next major update for your iPhone. This is one of the most significant updates in years, introducing exciting new features like enhanced home screen and control center customizations, RCS support in Messages, scheduled messages, and a host of Apple Intelligence-powered features.
iOS 18 Release Schedule
Developer Beta Release Date
Shortly after the WWDC 2024 keynote, the first iOS 18 developer beta was released. Traditionally, access to the developer beta required a $99-per-year Apple Developer program membership. However, starting with iOS 17, Apple made the developer beta accessible to anyone with a free Apple Developer account. So, if you have one, you can download the iOS 18 developer beta right now.
Keep in mind, it’s still an early beta, so expect bugs and issues, particularly with third-party apps and battery life. Also, Apple won’t service devices running beta software, so if you need a repair, you’ll need to revert to the latest public release of iOS 17.
Public Beta Release Date
While only the developer beta is currently available, the first public beta is expected to arrive four to five weeks later, likely between late June and early July. The public beta is open to anyone who joins the free Apple Beta Software program. Similar to the developer beta, it’s wise to install the public beta on a secondary device due to potential issues and bugs.
Final Release Date
The final public release of iOS 18 is anticipated for mid- to late September, in line with the launch of the new iPhone 16. If the iPhone 16 announcement occurs in early to mid-September, we can expect iOS 18 to be released around September 16-23, just days before the new iPhone hits stores.
iOS 18 Compatibility and Features
iOS 18 will be available for iPhone models back to the iPhone XS. However, the Apple Intelligence features will be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max due to their advanced hardware.
Before installing iOS 18, whether it’s a beta or the final release, ensure you back up your iPhone to avoid any data loss.
Get ready to experience one of the biggest iOS updates ever, packed with innovative features and enhancements that promise to elevate your iPhone experience to new heights.
