Apple Music is one of our top picks for music streaming, brimming with features and customization options to enhance your listening experience. However, some of these features, like Autoplay, can be a bit intrusive when your music keeps going after your chosen song, playlist, or album ends. Luckily, you can easily disable Autoplay and other Apple Music automations on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
How to Disable Autoplay in iOS and iPadOS
By default, Apple Music on iPhones and iPads will continue to play music after your current selection finishes, thanks to a feature called Autoplay, marked by an infinity symbol. If you’d rather have silence once your music ends, here’s how to disable it:
- Open Apple Music: Launch the app.
- Play a Song: Start any song and expand the track for a full-screen view.
- Access Playback Controls: Tap the three dots and lines icon at the bottom right.
- Turn Off Autoplay: Tap the Autoplay icon (infinity symbol) to disable it. The icon will turn see-through, indicating Autoplay is off.
How to Disable Autoplay in macOS
Autoplay is also enabled by default on Apple Music for macOS. Here’s how to turn it off:
- Open Apple Music: Launch the app.
- Access Playback Controls: Click the three dots and lines icon at the top right.
- Clear the Queue: Select “Clear” to remove all tracks from the Playing Next queue.
How to Disable Apple Music’s Data Capabilities
To save mobile data or ensure Apple Music only plays downloaded tracks, you can disable its data access:
- Open Settings: Launch the Settings app.
- Select Music: Tap on Music.
- Disable Data Access: Slide the “Allow Music to Access” toggle to the off position.
How to Disable Handoff
Handoff allows you to seamlessly switch between Apple devices for certain activities, including Apple Music playback. If you want to stop this feature:
- Open Settings: Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Navigate to AirPlay & Handoff: Select General > AirPlay & Handoff.
- Turn Off Handoff: Slide the Handoff toggle to the off position.
How to Disable CarPlay
CarPlay lets compatible vehicles automatically start playing music from your iPhone or iPad. To disable this:
- Open Settings: Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Select CarPlay: Go to General > CarPlay.
- Forget the Car: Tap “Forget This Car” for the connected vehicle.
