Google Gemini has recently received an upgrade that makes it even more responsive, particularly when your Android device is locked. According to findings by 9to5Google, the AI assistant can now answer “general questions” without requiring you to unlock your phone first.
Previously, tasks like checking the weather or asking for general information necessitated unlocking your device. Now, Google has enabled Gemini to provide answers directly from the lock screen, expanding its capabilities beyond controlling alarms, timers, and media.
The updated support page from Google clarifies how these new settings work with Gemini, particularly concerning the lock screen and Google Assistant settings. This enhancement is part of Google’s ongoing development of Gemini, its advanced language model introduced earlier this year.
At Google I/O 2024, additional features for Gemini were unveiled, including the ability to search for images using natural language with “Ask Photos.” This demonstrates Google’s commitment to enhancing Gemini’s functionality across Android devices.
Moreover, Gemini’s integration with other Google services like Search, Gmail, and Docs enhances its utility by understanding user intent more effectively. This integration allows Gemini to suggest complex solutions and assist with tasks involving email summaries and document analysis.
While the “general questions” feature is currently rolling out to select Android users and not universally available yet, Google plans to expand its availability soon, aiming to make Gemini a more integral part of everyday interactions on Android devices.
