In order to make Maps’ “Live View” feature more functional and to enable visual searching, Google is currently improving it. Users using iOS and Android in London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, San Francisco, and Tokyo will start to see the changes.
Live View will now provide a real-time replica of the world around you with information overlayed to make it simpler to search for locations quickly using AI, Street View pictures, and Augmented Reality (AR).
Open Maps on your iOS or Android device, then tap the camera symbol to use the feature. You won’t need to navigate or open additional pages because, like Street View, you will see a recreation of the area around you with information overlaid on the screen.
In the past, Google used AR to display directional arrows to make navigation simpler. It now extends that functionality to provide you with up-to-date localised information. In Live View, for instance, nearby ATMs will appear as tiny icons that you can tap to navigate or view more details.
Similar to this, tapping on various points of interest while they are in view will provide more information about the location, such as the hours of operation for a store or bus stops and transit stations. You can even spot locations that are not in your line of sight.
The capability to view every Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station nearby is another innovation. These can be filtered using tags like “rapid charge,” which will display stations nearby with chargers capable of 50kW or more.
The capability to view sites nearby that are wheelchair accessible and have no stairs is now available worldwide. Maps will now provide an icon if the location you are going has accessibility options if you simply tap on “Accessible Places.”
