Strands is the latest puzzle from the New York Times, offering a fresh twist on the classic word search. If you’re new to it or just need some help, here’s a quick guide to get you started:
How to Play Strands
- Find Theme Words: Your goal is to locate hidden “theme words” in the letter grid. Drag or tap letters to form words, and double-tap the final letter to confirm. Correct words will be highlighted in blue and become unselectable.
- Use Non-Theme Words: If you find a word that isn’t part of the theme, it can still help you. For every three non-theme words of at least four letters, you’ll get a hint by revealing some letters of a theme word, which you then need to unscramble.
- Complete the Grid: Every letter in the grid will be used exactly once to spell out the theme words, with no overlaps.
- Find the Spangram: Each puzzle features a “spangram” that describes the theme and spans from one side of the board to the other. This word will be highlighted in yellow when found.
