NYT Strands today: hints, spangram and answers for Thursday, July 25

Strands is a fresh daily puzzle from The New York Times that’s a more challenging version of the classic word search. Here’s a quick guide to help you tackle it:

How to Play NYT Strands

  1. Find Theme Words: Your goal is to discover the “theme words” hidden in the letter grid. You can manipulate letters by dragging or tapping to form words. Double-tap the last letter to confirm. When you find a correct theme word, it will be highlighted in blue and locked in place.
  2. Non-Theme Words: If you find words that aren’t theme words, they still help! For every three non-theme words (at least four letters long) you uncover, you’ll get a hint—letters from one of the theme words will be revealed, and you’ll need to unscramble it.
  3. Complete the Grid: Every letter in the grid is used to spell out the theme words, with no overlaps. Each letter appears only once.
  4. Spangram: Each puzzle features a “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that spans two opposite sides of the board. Finding this spangram will highlight it in yellow and help you understand the theme.
