Introducing Strands, the latest brain-teaser from the New York Times! A twist on the classic word search, Strands requires a sharp eye and a bit of cunning to master.
If Strands has you stumped today, don’t fret. We’ve got some hints and the solution to help you out.
How to play Strands
In Strands, your mission is to find “theme words” hidden within a grid of letters. You can manipulate letters by dragging or tapping to form words. Double-tap the final letter to confirm your word. When you find a theme word, it will highlight in blue and become unselectable.
If you discover a non-theme word, it’s still useful! For every three non-theme words of at least four letters, you’ll get a hint where some letters of a theme word are revealed for you to unscramble.
All letters in the grid are used to form theme words, and each letter is used only once.
Each puzzle includes one “spangram” — a special theme word that spans from one side of the grid to the opposite side, and it reveals the puzzle’s theme. The spangram will be highlighted in yellow once found.
The objective is to solve the puzzle quickly and with minimal hints.
