As the follow-up to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is anticipated to be released in the second half of 2023. Contrary to other Pro iPhone models, the manufacturer is said to include a periscope camera in this year’s top-of-the-line flagship device. According to a recent report, the Cupertino business intends to reconfigure the rear camera system on the bigger iPhone 15 Pro Max in order to make space for the periscope lens, which enhances the telephoto camera’s magnification capabilities.
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max’s triple rear camera system will reportedly alter on Apple, according to tipster Unknownz21 (Twitter: @URedditor), with the ultra-wide angle and telephoto cameras being placed in different locations. On the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro, the camera that sits in the space between the LiDAR and the LED flash will have a periscope lens.
The 15 Pro Max's ultrawide camera is swapping positions with the telephoto compared to the 14.
Why? Because there is no room on the bottom lens for the periscope. Can't go down because of the battery. Can't go right because of the LiDAR scanner.
Has to be the middle lens. https://t.co/OnGyEh5ahp pic.twitter.com/yrnuvykPen

Given that Apple has not yet disclosed any intentions to improve the zoom capabilities of the future iPhone 15 Pro Max, it is advisable to treat these statements with a grain of salt. According to Max Tech’s Vadim Yuryev, the periscope lens on the rumored smartphone will have to be positioned underneath the ultra-wide angle camera and above the primary camera simply because there would be no room for it in the other two spots.
In comparison to a standard telephoto camera, a periscope camera system allows for a greater separation between the image sensor and the lens, but it occupies a lot of horizontal space. Therefore, additional parts will need to be shifted in order to accommodate the insertion of a periscope lens.
According to Yuryev, the business is unable to attach the periscope lens at the bottom of the camera module because of the battery underneath the bottom lens and the LiDAR scanner. According to him, the smaller iPhone 15 Pro won’t have enough room for Apple to modify the logic board design to suit the new lens layout. This will be achievable with the middle lens location.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max will reportedly come with a periscope lens from Apple, according to previous rumours. In a previous story from last month, it was stated that the future device will reportedly have a periscope camera lens capable of up to 6x optical magnification. The speculated figure is still less than the 10x optical zoom on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s periscope camera. As was already said, Apple has not yet made any official statements on its intentions to include a periscope lens in the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
