The new Beats Pill is a fantastic little speaker for many reasons. The best part? It’s a powerful Bluetooth speaker that doesn’t break the bank.
In many ways, as mentioned in our Beats Pill review, this version remains wonderfully simple. Just pair your phone, play your music, and you’re good to go. But despite having just three buttons and maintaining that familiar shape, the Beats Pill hides a few clever features that might not be obvious at first glance.
Plus, this compact Beats Pill can do some things that other speakers just can’t.
Here are our favorite tips and tricks for the 2024 Beats Pill model.
The Lanyard Comes Off
One of the coolest things about the Beats Pill is its lanyard. It makes carrying the speaker a breeze and gives you the option to hang it in places that might not typically support a speaker.
However, sometimes that lanyard can be a bit annoying, either for aesthetic reasons or because it’s just in the way. Luckily, you can easily remove it. Just feed the long end back through the loop, and to reattach it, reverse the process. This simple feature adds to the versatility of the Beats Pill.
It Can Charge Your Phone
This ties into how the buttons work, which we’ll cover below, but it’s worth mentioning that the Beats Pill can also act as a portable battery charger. Beats doesn’t specify the Pill’s battery capacity, but it’s definitely enough to give your phone a boost.
To charge your phone with the Beats Pill:
- Turn off the speaker.
- Plug one end of the cable into your phone and the other into the Beats Pill.
- Press the power button three times.
(Note: You can still play music while charging your phone. Nice!)
The Power Button
The power button on the Beats Pill does more than just turn the speaker on and off:
- Press once to turn on/off.
- Once on, press once to see the battery status on the LED near the power button.
- Hold for three seconds to pair a device.
- Double tap for the voice assistant.
- Press and hold while plugging into your phone for USB-C audio.
- Triple tap to charge your phone.
The Center Button
The center button, located between the power button and the volume buttons, is packed with functionality:
- Press once to play/pause.
- Press twice to skip ahead.
- Press thrice to go back.
- Press and hold on two Beats Pill speakers for amplify mode.
- Press the center button and volume-up to pair two Beats Pills in stereo mode (the speaker you pressed becomes the “left” speaker).
- Press the center button and volume down to break the pair in either mode.
That’s a surprising number of features for such a compact Bluetooth speaker. Enjoy exploring all the tricks your Beats Pill has to offer!
