Apple iPhone SE 4 launch delayed to 2025, report indicates

Issues with the 5G modem may be the reason behind the postponement.

Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone SE 4 launch has been pushed back until 2025, according to a recent report by Barclays analysts. The budget-friendly handset was initially expected to be unveiled next year, boasting an all-screen design reminiscent of the iPhone XR and iPhone 14. However, it seems that the introduction of the fourth-generation iPhone SE will now have to wait for further developments.

In their research notes, analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O’Malley from Barclays shared insights that Apple has decided to delay the release of iPhone SE 4 until 2025, potentially due to issues with the 5G modem. The iPhone SE 4 was previously rumored to mark Apple’s first use of a proprietary Apple 5G modem, but according to the analysts, Qualcomm will remain Apple’s modem supplier for both the upcoming iPhone SE and iPhone 16 lineup through next year. This aligns with previous claims by renowned Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu.

The iPhone SE 4 is expected to inherit design cues from both the iPhone 14 and iPhone XR, featuring a 6.1-inch OLED display with flat edges and Face ID support. The device’s delay means Apple enthusiasts will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the budget-friendly offering, which was initially anticipated to arrive in 2024.

Unlike the standard iPhone series, iPhone SE models do not follow an annual release schedule. Instead, Apple has typically introduced a new generation of SE devices every two years. So far, there have been three generations of iPhone SE models. The original iPhone SE made its debut in 2016, while the latest iPhone SE (2022) was launched in March last year, starting at Rs. 43,900 for the base 64GB storage variant.

The outgoing iPhone SE (2022) is powered by Apple’s A15 Bionic SoC and boasts a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with a single 12-megapixel rear camera. On the front, it features a 7-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. The device comes with storage options of up to 256GB and features IP67 build and a fingerprint sensor-equipped Touch ID home button for biometric authentication.

Apple enthusiasts eager for the iPhone SE 4 will have to remain patient as the company takes the necessary time to address the potential 5G modem issues before making the device available to the public. As the development continues, customers can look forward to a budget-friendly offering with an appealing blend of modern design and performance features in the future.
