After having faced severe backlash for weeks over new updated Privacy Policy for Indian users, WhatsApp has now declared that it will not be backing down since there is nothing arbitrary with policy despite the claims and it has informed the Indian government that it remains committed to protection of privacy of the people.
Earlier, WhatsApp had delayed the roll out of the new policy after the Indian Government asked for a review. The new date for the update has been set at May 15 and WhatsApp has offered the users to try the new update and review the features that have changed.
WhatsApp had also said that it would be mandatory for the users to accept the new policy saying that it is necessary if a user wishes to “have full functionality of WhatsApp”, failing to do which, a user’s account will be labelled ‘inactive’.
During this ‘inactive’ period, “for a short time, these users will be able to receive calls and notifications, but will not be able to read or send messages from the app,” informed WhatsApp. According to the current and the new policy, accounts which have been inactive for 120 days are automatically deleted.
This defensive stance has been maintained by the firm now as it repeatedly dismisses all skepticism.
