Meta-owned WhatsApp is enhancing document sharing with its new in-app scanning feature, which is now available to select iOS users. Part of the latest update (version 24.25.80) on WhatsApp for iOS, this innovative tool lets users scan documents directly within the app’s document-sharing menu, eliminating the need for third-party apps or devices.
According to WABetaInfo, a trusted platform for WhatsApp updates, the feature was first highlighted in the changelog of the latest release and is being rolled out gradually. Broader availability for iOS users is expected in the coming weeks.
The in-app scanning option can be accessed via the document-sharing menu, where users will find a dedicated “Scan” button. By activating this feature, the device’s camera opens, allowing users to capture a document image. WhatsApp’s intelligent scanning technology automatically detects document edges and optimizes margins. Users can also make manual adjustments to ensure proper framing and clarity.
Once the scan is finalized, users can preview, refine, and share the document instantly in chats or groups. The feature supports high-quality scans, making it suitable for sharing a variety of documents, including receipts, contracts, and notes.
The integration of a scanner directly within WhatsApp simplifies document sharing for both personal and professional use. It is particularly advantageous for users who need to share documents quickly while traveling or multitasking. The feature also eliminates dependency on third-party scanning apps, saving time and effort.
With optimized scan quality, WhatsApp ensures that documents are clear and readable, enhancing the app’s utility for everyday and business communication.
Currently, the feature is exclusive to a limited number of iOS users as part of a phased rollout. Additional users are expected to gain access to the in-app scanner in the coming weeks.
