On July 21, Indian e-commerce company Flipkart announced the launch of a camera augmented reality feature known as Flipkart Camera on its app.
According to the Bengaluru-based company, it came up with Flipkart Camera to deliver an immersive e-commerce experience. The new in-app feature will enable shoppers to leap from “imagining” to “experiencing” what a product would look like in reality before purchasing.
Additionally, it will help the users check large electronics or furniture out in the desired area of their houses through the capabilities of AR (Augmented Reality). It would also allow their consumers to look over the products or appliances virtually by means of 3D avatars to get a clearer view of the space they might occupy.
The e-commerce giant has said that the tool would prove to be helpful in categories like furniture, luggage, and large appliances where shoppers are required to estimate the size as well as fit of a product.
It stated in a press note, “With customers increasingly shopping on the go and from the comfort of their homes, this new experience will enable customers to purchase the right product without having to step out given COVID-19 restrictions.”
Regarding the developments, the Chief Product and Technology Officer of Flipkart, Jeyandran Venugopal added that the company has a target of bringing AR experience to a notch higher by offering in-house product demonstrations from the comfort of the customer’s living mroom.
