Carlos Alcaraz has reached the semifinals of the US Open 2022 against Jannik Sinner in a match that resulted in more than 5 hours as the second longest match in the tournament’s history.
Both players displayed tremendous tennis throughout the match, but Alcaraz’s second set stroke may have been the best of the entire tournament. Before sprinting across the court to play an amazing shot behind Sinner’s back, the 19-year-old first returned Sinner’s serve from out in front of the court. Alcaraz quickly raced to the centre and smashed a backhand past his Italian opponent as Sinner attempted to play a drop shot on the volley in retaliation.
The first set was won by Alcaraz, but Sinner won the next two. In the fourth set, the Italian also broke Alcaraz, and it appeared that he would eliminate him. But the Spaniard persevered and managed to break back to win the set. The match’s conclusion was the latest in tournament history thanks to his victory in the deciding set. In the end, Alcaraz prevailed 6-3, 6-7 (7/9), 6-7 (0/7), 7-5, 6-3 with a brilliant shot that is praised by every tennis fan on social media.
