The Indian shooters will begin training at the venue on July 19, having been assigned accommodations at the games village after landing in Tokyo in the early hours of Saturday. They will not be required to undergo any quarantine ahead of the Olympics

The shooting competitions will take place in the Asaka Shooting Range in Saitama Prefecture, which is located north of Tokyo. At the 1964 Olympics, the venue also held the shooting sport.

“They have settled down at the village, rooms are being allotted at the Games Village and they will begin training from 19th July. There is no quarantine or any isolation required as they have arrived from Croatia,” National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) secretary Rajiv Bhatia told PTI.

The federation’s office-bearer said the formalities at Narita’s international airport went smoothly, and the contingent had no serious issues there because of the social distancing measures in place.

The Olympics will take place from July 23 to August 8, with the shooting events beginning the day after the opening ceremony and lasting for the first ten days of the event, which will be performed without spectators due to the pandemic.

Members of other disciplines arriving in Tokyo from India and a few other countries struck severely by the coronavirus are required to undergo a three-day quarantine.

On Friday, the Indian shooting squad left Zagreb following an 80-day competition and training stint in the Balkan nation. At the Tokyo Olympics, India will field a record-breaking 15 shooters. Aside from coaches and support staff, the Indian squad consists of eight rifle, five pistol, and two skeet shooters. Indian shooters have continuously dominated the sport before the coronavirus pandemic, finishing top of the table in four ISSF World Cups in 2019.
