The Haryana government announced on Wednesday that athletes from the state who win a gold medal in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics will be awarded a monetary prize of Rs 6 crores. The state government will award the silver medalists with an amount of Rs. 4 crores, while the bronze medalists will receive Rs. 2.50 crore.
Sandeep Singh, the state sports minister, announced during an interaction with Olympic medalists on the occasion of International Olympic Day in Haryana. Sandeep also said that each of the 30 athletes competing in the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics will have a training budget of Rs. 5 lakh.
According to a state government release, the chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said medal winners in international competitions will be granted government positions to encourage young people to participate in sports. International level medal winners, according to Khattar, will be hired on a deputation basis in the Education and other departments, in addition to government employment in the Sports Department.
He mentioned that the government has a policy in place to encourage people to participate in sports. Along with the 3 per cent reserve, government employment is distributed based on the medals earned by athletes, according to the announcement.
Aside from that, the government was improving infrastructure and renovating stadiums to promote sports in the state.
