Shot Putter, Tajinder Toor has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics at Indian Grand Prix 4 with a throw of 21.49m and broke his own national record. The Olympic Qualifying effort for the event is 21.10m. The previous record was 20.92m in 2019 by him.

Tajinder Singh in an interview with AFI media after his historic Asian record and Tokyo 2020 qualification said “Firstly, I would like to say that the Pandemic had been a huge problem that caused difficulties to the whole world. I was fit last year then I suffered injury with fracture. I used to throw 22m but due to injuries, it became 0. When my body almost recovered and regained energy, the competition started getting cancelled. We had the chance in Feb and in June but it got cancelled. Finally got this opportunity and it went well.”

“My target I had thought of was close to 21.50m and I got it in my first throw with 21.49m. Still, long way to go because I am not satisfied only by this. Now my target is 22m at least and I will complete it soon. I am so thankful for AFI for organising this event and I am so happy to qualify for the Olympics. It’s so helpful,” he added.
