In an effort to reduce its carbon footprint, the Paris 2024 Olympics will offer mostly vegan food to athletes and staff. The Games aim to cut down on meat and dairy consumption, significantly lowering carbon emissions associated with the event.

The Olympic Village will focus on plant-based meals, with about 60% of the food being vegan. This initiative is part of Paris’s broader strategy to reduce overall carbon emissions. The city plans to decrease emissions by about 50% compared to previous Olympics. For comparison, the London 2012 Games generated 3.4 million metric tons of CO2, Tokyo 2020 produced 1.96 million metric tons, and Paris aims to bring this number down to 1.58 million metric tons.

Local produce will be prioritized, with the majority of fruits and vegetables sourced from nearby farms. The emphasis will be on reducing cheese and dairy products, while synthetic meat will also be introduced to further support the vegan initiative. This approach reflects a growing commitment to environmental sustainability in major global events.
