The Premier Handball League (PHL) is the new league, which is scheduled to begin in 2022. The Handball Federation of India (HFI) thought of starting this new league in India just to promote the Handball game. It was scheduled to play in 2021 but the officials decided to postpone the league due to COVID 19.

HFI has also announced that there will be six state teams that will be participating in this Premier Handball League. HFI has taken this decision to allow Handball players to play in the bigger leagues and then, play for the country. On Monday, Garvit Gujrat became the first team to compete in this League as announced by the Premier Handball League (PHL). Garvit Gujrat team is owned by Garvit Sports Private Limited (GSPL).

Handball is also played in the Olympics. Thus, HFI has also started this Premier Handball League (PHL), so that, good players will come out who can compete in Olympics for India.

“Popularity of handball in tier-2 and tier-3 and villages in India is high. There are about 11 lakh players in handball across India,” Abhinav Banthia, the President of Blue sports, said in an interview with Sportstar.

As the foreign players have also been allowed to play in this league, the Premier Handball League (PHL) has strictly said that the players will have to follow the COVID-19 guidelines. In a team of 14 people, only 2 overseas players are allowed to play the game not more than that.
