Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has sparked debate after criticizing Arsenal’s approach during set-piece situations following their narrow 1-0 win over West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday night.

The victory sent Arsenal FC back to the top of the Premier League table with just two matches remaining this season. Mikel Arteta’s side secured three crucial points in a tense contest as the title race entered its final stage.

However, the match ended with controversy after West Ham had a late goal ruled out before stoppage time. The home side believed they had found an equaliser that could have damaged Arsenal’s title hopes, but the referee disallowed the effort following a challenge on the goalkeeper inside the box.

Speaking after the game, Schmeichel strongly disagreed with the decision and questioned Arsenal’s repeated use of physical blocks around opposition goalkeepers during corners and free kicks.

“Arsenal have been blocking the opponent’s goalkeeper all season long,” Schmeichel said. “They would never be on top of the league if we disallow these goals.”

The comments quickly divided fans and pundits on social media. Some agreed with the former Denmark international and argued that Arsenal have pushed the limits with their set-piece routines throughout the campaign. Others defended Arteta’s side and insisted the tactics are within the rules of the game.
