Arsenal moved another step closer to the Premier League title after a dramatic 1-0 win over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday night.

The game looked set to end in frustration for Arsenal before Leandro Trossard produced the breakthrough in the 83rd minute. The Belgian forward scored his first Premier League goal since December and gave Mikel Arteta’s side a massive three points in the title race.

There was still late drama in stoppage time. Callum Wilson thought he had rescued a point for West Ham after finding the net deep into added time. However, VAR ruled the goal out after a foul on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya during the build-up.

The victory was historic for Arsenal. It marked their 42nd win across all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign, the highest number of wins in a single season in the club’s history.

The previous record stood for more than five decades. Arsenal’s famous 1970/71 side had managed 41 wins during a season that ended with a league and FA Cup double. Arteta’s current squad has now officially surpassed that achievement.

Arsenal are now sitting at the top of the Premier League table and are closing in on the title. The Gunners need just two wins from their final two league matches to officially secure the trophy and complete what could become one of the most memorable seasons in the club’s modern history.
