Baba Indrajit of the Kolkata Knight Riders said that veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has praised him for his performance. In an interview with Sportskeeda, the middle order batsman said that Ashwin texted him about his place in India’s Test lineup, but that he should be patient.

Baba Indrajith, with 396 runs in three matches, at an average of 99, including three centuries, the Tamil Nadu man was the best run-scorer for his state side. However, in his first season with Kolkata, he only played three games and scored 51 runs before being dropped from the eleven.

“I’ve known him for a very long time, we’ve played league cricket together, Ranji Trophy together, so whenever I do well he messages me saying, ‘You have a spot in the Test XI, for some people it takes time so keep working hard your time will definitely come.’ – that kind of compliments it means a lot to me,” Indrajith told Sportskeeda in an interview.

He said such positive feedback coming from the likes of Ashwin keeps him hopeful and adds to his confidence. “Look, when you get a compliment from Ravichandran Ashwin, who’s a legend of the game and one of the best all-rounders to have ever played, it feels good. I sometimes feel like, ‘OK, he sees something in me,’ so that gives me the confidence. He’s been doing this for a very long time,” he said.

After hitting 51 runs in three Ranji Trophy games for Tamil Nadu in his maiden season, he was dropped. He finished in the top three run scorers in the state five times over the following six seasons, including two times as the state captain. Indrajith has scored 3788 runs in 56 first-class matches at an average of 53.35, with 12 hundreds and 19 half-centuries. He has 1154 runs at 44.38 in 41 List A games, with one century and eight fifties.
