In a major development, India’s Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has decided to part ways with Mumbai and shift base to Goa for the upcoming 2025-26 domestic cricket season. As per reports by The Times of India, the 23-year-old cricketer has officially written to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to make the switch.
“He has sought a NOC from us and has cited personal reasons for his move to Goa,” a senior MCA official confirmed.
Jaiswal, who has been a key figure for Mumbai since his U-19 days, is reportedly being considered for the captaincy of the Goa state team. His decision comes at a time when Goa has earned a place in the knock-out stages of the domestic circuit, providing the southpaw with a fresh opportunity to lead and inspire.
Earlier this year, Jaiswal was left out of India’s Champions Trophy squad but was included among the non-travelling reserves. He later joined Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for the semifinal against Vidarbha in February but opted out on the eve of the match citing ankle pain.
Having played a crucial role for India in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 391 runs in five Tests at an average of 43.44, Jaiswal’s move marks a new chapter in his domestic career. His journey from scoring a double century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai to establishing himself as a Test regular has been nothing short of inspiring.
If confirmed, Jaiswal will join the list of notable players like Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad who previously switched to Goa to pursue more prominent roles.
