India has unveiled their lineup for the Asia Cup 2022, and while the fans are thrilled to see some legendary players return, they may be sceptical of India’s bowling unit without Jasprit Bumrah.

Rohit Sharma will be leading the side without any doubt, and KL Rahul will be his deputy. Virat Kohli has been named back in the squad after a long time while Shreyas Iyer will be going as a standby player. Deepak Hooda, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Ravinrta Jadeja and Rishabh Pant will be the middle-order choices while Suryakumar Yadav will assist the other 3 senior members – Rohit, Kohli, KL, in their top-order survival.

The bowling department consists of Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, and young talent Arshdeep Singh.

Some outstanding players who were awaiting their opportunity to perform or even a “comeback” call from BCCI but weren’t even thought of as standby players.

Shikhar Dhawan, one of the best openers, comes first. Dhawan led Team India in the ODIs against the West Indies and shown his own performance, but he was not even given a chance to make the Asia Cup squad.

Ishan Kishan, the left-handed player, was not chosen by Team India for their lineup, and the debate over Rohit’s partner may yet rage. In tours, it can be a little easier to experiment, but for a tournament like this, the techniques should be properly rehearsed. Being a left-handed batter, Dhawan might have paired with Rohit Sharma, who is his all-time favorite partner. Every time they step out to open for team India, the pair has the potential to make a difference.

With 68 T20I matches under his credit, Dhawan ranks fourth among team India’s run scorers in the sport’s shortest format, behind Rohit, Kohli, and KL Rahul. Dhawan is one of the fastest Indian batters to reach 1000 runs, with 1759 runs in T20I.
