Abhigyan Kundu is one of India’s emerging wicketkeeper-batters who has steadily established himself as a regular feature in the country’s Under-19 setup. Known for his composure behind the stumps and growing confidence with the bat, Kundu grabbed headlines after scoring a century in India U-19’s Asia Cup match against Malaysia.

Ahead of the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup, Kundu was going through a lean patch in terms of batting form. However, the left-hander found his rhythm at the right time, delivering a crucial performance in a match that followed India’s high-intensity win over arch-rivals Pakistan.

Strong wicketkeeping credentials

Apart from his batting, Kundu is highly regarded for his wicketkeeping skills. In the previous match against Pakistan, he played a key all-round role—scoring 22 runs, taking two catches, and effecting one stumping, contributions that helped India secure a comfortable victory.

Match-winning knock against Malaysia

Against Malaysia, Kundu emerged as the standout performer. At the time of writing, the left-handed batter was unbeaten on 168 off 113 balls, having struck 14 fours and five sixes. His innings formed the backbone of India’s dominant batting display, with the team racing past 360 runs in 47.1 overs while still having five wickets in hand.

India’s innings had earlier been set in motion by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a brisk half-century, followed by a composed 90-run knock from Vedant Trivedi. However, it was Kundu who took complete control of the innings and stood out as the main architect of India’s imposing total.

Rising presence in India’s youth setup

Kundu’s century not only underlined his batting potential but also reinforced his importance in India’s U-19 side as a reliable wicketkeeper-batter. With his ability to contribute in multiple facets of the game, Abhigyan Kundu continues to strengthen his case as one of India’s promising talents at the youth level.
