India’s young all-rounder Harshit Rana delivered a timely response to his critics, scoring a quickfire 24 runs off 18 deliveries to power India to a total of 264 runs at the end of 50 overs in the IND vs AUS 2nd ODI in Adelaide.

Coming in to bat at number 9, Rana played a fearless innings under pressure, smashing three boundaries — including two off Adam Zampa in the 47th over — to push India past the 250-run mark. His strike rate of 133.33 stood out, especially considering India’s earlier struggles in the innings.

The Delhi pacer, who has been under scrutiny since his selection for both the ODI and T20I series against Australia, faced accusations of favoritism directed at head coach Gautam Gambhir. However, his determined knock showcased composure and intent, proving why the management has backed him.

Before this match, Rana had managed just 14 runs in five ODI innings, but his late flourish in Adelaide helped India finish strongly. He also has 14 wickets to his name so far in his ODI career but went wicketless in the rain-hit first ODI in Perth.

Earlier in the innings, India recovered from a shaky start after losing Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli (0) early. Rohit Sharma (73) and Shreyas Iyer (61) steadied the innings with a century partnership, while Axar Patel (44) provided valuable middle-order support. In the closing overs, Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj ensured India crossed 260, setting up a competitive total for Australia.

Rana’s innings not only boosted India’s total but also marked a turning point for the young all-rounder, who seems to have finally found his rhythm with the bat.
