The Vijay Hazare Trophy witnessed a historic moment on Tuesday, December 24, as Bihar registered the highest team total ever in the tournament’s history, smashing 574 for 6 against Arunachal Pradesh in Ranchi.
The monumental score eclipsed the previous record of 506 for 2, set by Tamil Nadu against Arunachal Pradesh in 2022, firmly placing Bihar at the top of the all-time highest totals list in India’s premier List A competition.
Bihar’s innings was powered by a series of breathtaking individual performances. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, just 14 years old, stole the spotlight with a sensational 190 off 84 balls, featuring 16 fours and 15 sixes at a strike rate exceeding 226. He was ably supported by S Gani, who remained unbeaten on 128 off just 40 deliveries, striking 12 sixes, while Ayush Loharuka added 116 off 56 balls. Contributions from Piyush Singh further ensured Bihar crossed the 550-run mark.
The innings was scored at a staggering run rate of 11.48 runs per over, underlining the sheer dominance of Bihar’s batting display. Arunachal Pradesh’s bowling attack struggled to contain the onslaught, with the boundary count mounting rapidly throughout the innings.
With this effort, Bihar not only secured a commanding position in the match but also etched their name into Vijay Hazare Trophy history. The record-breaking total now stands as the highest score ever recorded in the tournament, marking a landmark moment in Indian domestic cricket.
