Chepauk Super Gillies found an unexpected moment of luck during the 7th over of their chase against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2025 match at Coimbatore on Thursday evening.
At the end of seven overs, Chepauk Super Gillies stood at 71/2 in pursuit of a target of 174. The equation read 103 runs needed from 78 balls. Vijay Shankar (2 off 2 balls) and Baba Aparajith (15 off 14 balls) were at the crease when a comedy of errors unfolded on the final ball of the over.
Sai Kishore, who had just dismissed Mokit Hariharan earlier in the over, delivered the last ball to Vijay Shankar. Shankar played the ball with soft hands and called for a quick single. The fielder came in and attempted an underarm throw at the keeper’s end, hitting the stumps directly. However, the ball ricocheted off the stumps and rolled towards the third-man boundary.
Both batters were caught mid-pitch in a classic case of yes-no hesitation, unsure whether to attempt a second run on the overthrow. Meanwhile, the wicketkeeper quickly retrieved the ball and fired it towards the bowler’s end. In another twist, Sai Kishore failed to collect the throw cleanly, giving the batters enough time to complete the second run.
The chaotic sequence brought some light-hearted relief to the contest and helped Chepauk Super Gillies inch ahead with an additional run.
At the end of the over, Chepauk Super Gillies were 71 for 2 in 7 overs with Baba Aparajith on 15 (14) and Vijay Shankar on 2 (2). Sai Kishore completed his over with figures of 2-0-15-1.
