After 22.2 overs of play, the warm-up match between Pakistan and Afghanistan at the Gabba was called off owing to rain. Afghanistan successfully batted all their allotted 20 overs, with captain Mohammad Nabi leading the way with an unbeaten 37-ball 51. Nabi began his innings in the eighth over when Afghanistan was reeling at 48 for 4. He then hit five boundaries and a six to help Afghanistan reach 154 for six.

As a result of the heavy rain in Australia’s playing fields, the practise match between India and New Zealand was also called off. This highlights two significant problems for the World Cup event: first, the sudden significance of bad weather, and second, the possibility that New Zealand and India might not have the opportunity to play each other before the Super 12. Fortunately, India has one practice match left in schedule with the Kiwis, but the weather conditions might interrupt once again.
