Sri Lanka set a formidable target of 188 runs after posting a commanding total of 187/6, fueled by Samarawickrama’s fifty and crucial cameos from Mathews and Hasaranga. Mathews’ unbeaten 42* in just 22 balls, including four sixes, proved pivotal as Sri Lanka plundered 49 runs in the last three overs.
In response, Afghanistan struggled to counter Sri Lanka’s bowling attack. Mathews, opening the bowling after his batting heroics, triggered a top-order collapse, claiming two crucial wickets in his brief powerplay spell. Binura Fernando also made significant contributions, further denting Afghanistan’s progress with quick wickets.
Despite a brief resistance from Mohammad Nabi and Karim Janat, Afghanistan fell short of their target by a staggering 72 runs. Hasaranga and Pathirana swiftly wrapped up the tail once the resilient sixth-wicket stand was broken by Dasun Shanaka.
With this victory, Sri Lanka showcased their dominance in the series, highlighting their strong batting and bowling capabilities.
