Shikhar Dhawan, team India’s opening batsman, announced his retirement from the international and domestic circuit. Speaking about his IPL, he missed out on playing a major chunk of the IPL 2024. Shikhar led the Punjab Kings in the initial phase of the tournament before English all-rounder Sam Curran was allotted the captaincy duties.
Shikhar’s injury and subsequent struggle to bring back his fitness at its fullest has been a major setback for his future in IPL. He acknowledged that he is still recovering and have not yet reached 100%. This has indeed raised some concerns about his inability to perform at the highest level in a high-pressure tournament like the IPL.
“Unfortunately, I got injured this IPL season and could not play for Punjab except for 4-5 matches. It takes time to recover. I am still healing. I have not recovered 100 per cent yet,” said the Southpaw in an interview earlier.
