India’s upcoming tour of the West Indies, which marks their entry into the 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle, is unlikely to witness significant squad alterations. Reports suggest that only a handful of players might be rested or dropped, with Rohit Sharma continuing to captain the Test team.
One player whose workload is being carefully considered is Mohammed Shami, who has shouldered a heavy burden in recent times. Having bowled continuously since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and featuring in all 17 IPL matches this season, Shami’s workload management is a priority. However, there are indications that he could return for the ODIs following the two Tests, taking into account the upcoming World Cup.
Mohammed Siraj, recognized as one of the most improved pacers, may also be included in the touring squad but used selectively to ensure his fitness for crucial limited-overs assignments, including the Asia Cup and the World Cup.
The selectors are expected to include Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik in the squad. Umran, who had limited opportunities with SunRisers Hyderabad this season, could earn a national recall, although it remains uncertain which formats he will be considered for—Tests, ODIs, or T20Is.
