Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the seasoned stalwarts of Indian cricket, may be approaching the twilight of their international careers, yet there’s scant evidence that their suitable successors have emerged in the realm of Test cricket. While the next generation has exhibited flashes of potential, they remain a work in progress.
The recent South Africa tour reaffirmed Kohli’s status as the premier Test batsman for India. Despite the challenging conditions, Kohli stood out as the most composed among the visiting batters, showcasing his enduring class. According to former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, the team should be grateful for having a player of Kohli’s caliber in their ranks.
We “Virat Kohli will no doubt play Test cricket) as long as possible and thank god for India, we have a Virat Kohli. He showed on this trip the kind of the challenges that batters face that there’s a big distance between him and the next best Test batter in India at least until Rishabh Pant is back,” Manjrekar told to ESPNcricinfo.
