India have been crowned Champions Trophy 2025 winners, securing their third title in the tournament’s history with a commanding victory over New Zealand in the final. Rohit Sharma’s men remained unbeaten throughout the competition, and their performance in the summit clash was a reflection of their dominance.
Chasing 252 for victory, India’s batting unit once again delivered under pressure. Rohit led from the front with a well-compiled 76, providing the perfect platform alongside Shubman Gill for a strong start. Despite New Zealand’s fightback, Shreyas Iyer (48) and KL Rahul (34) ensured there were no major hiccups. The winning moment came when Ravindra Jadeja pulled a delivery past deep square leg for a boundary, sparking wild celebrations in the Indian camp.
A flawless campaign for India
India’s triumph in Dubai marks their second consecutive ICC title, following their T20 World Cup win in 2024. Throughout the Champions Trophy, they were in complete control, never really facing a significant challenge from their opponents.
The bowlers played a crucial role in restricting New Zealand to 251/7, with Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy taking two wickets each. Despite Daryl Mitchell’s fifty and Michael Bracewell’s late flourish (53 off 40 balls), India always looked in control.
Rohit lifts another ICC trophy
For Rohit Sharma, this victory is another feather in his captaincy cap. His leadership has been instrumental in India’s recent ICC success. He became the only second Indian captain after MS Dhoni to win multiple ICC trophies. Rohit has also won the T20I world cup in 2024. While Dhoni has won ICC ODI World Cup in 2011, T20I World Cup in 2007 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013.
