India’s Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant has set his sights on a comeback for the upcoming India vs West Indies Test series in October, after consulting specialist doctors in Mumbai regarding his latest injury setback.
Pant, 27, fractured his foot during the Manchester Test against England and missed the remainder of the series. He was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2025, which begins on September 9, and had remained in England on a short break. Recently, he was spotted in a moon boot, with strapping still visible in his latest social media post.

According to reports, Pant returned to India last week and has been meeting specialists in Mumbai to finalize his recovery plan. He is expected to head to the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to continue rehabilitation. Sources suggest he has been given a recovery timeline and is working toward regaining full fitness before the October series.
A crucial return for India
The two-Test series against West Indies is scheduled in Ahmedabad and Delhi, and Pant’s availability will depend on clearance from the BCCI medical team. If he misses out, his next opportunity to return could be the India vs Australia limited-overs series, ahead of a packed cricketing calendar leading into the 2027 World Cup.
Pant has been through a long recovery journey before. Following his near-fatal car accident in December 2022, he underwent multiple surgeries and rehabilitation, eventually returning to international cricket. His leadership role and explosive batting make him a vital asset for India across formats.
