In a cricketing spectacle at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, at just 23, etched his name in history by eclipsing Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs in a single edition of the Cricket World Cup before turning 25. This momentous feat unfolded during New Zealand’s clash against Sri Lanka.

Tendulkar’s record of 523 runs, set in the 1996 World Cup when he was also 23, crumbled as Ravindra showcased his batting prowess, surpassing the milestone with a well-timed shot off Maheesh Theekshana in the second innings of the match.

Before this remarkable match, Ravindra had already amassed 523 runs in eight innings with an impressive average of 74.71. The young batter, displaying a remarkable consistency, recorded three centuries and two half-centuries, establishing himself as the leading run-scorer for the Kiwis in the World Cup.

Adding to his accolades, Ravindra not only outshone Tendulkar but also surpassed Jonny Bairstow’s record for the most runs in a maiden World Cup edition. Bairstow’s previous mark of 532 runs in the 2019 edition was left behind as Ravindra’s cricketing brilliance took center stage in this thrilling encounter.
