New Zealand’s seasoned pacer Matt Henry has been ruled out of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 after suffering a shoulder injury while attempting a catch in his previous match. New Zealand’s stand-in captain Mitchell Santner confirmed the unfortunate update, stating that Nathan Smith will replace Henry in the squad.
“Unfortunately, Matt Henry has been ruled out, and we’ve got Nathan Smith coming in,” Santner announced ahead of their upcoming fixture.
Henry, who has been a key part of the Black Caps’ bowling attack, sustained the injury during his last match, which has now forced him out of the tournament. His absence will be a major blow for New Zealand, given his experience and effectiveness in limited-overs cricket.

Meanwhile, Nathan Smith, an emerging fast-bowling all-rounder, will have an opportunity to showcase his talent on the international stage. With Henry ruled out, the Kiwi pace attack will rely on Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, and Tim Southee to lead their campaign forward.
New Zealand will now have to regroup and adjust their bowling plans as they continue their journey in the tournament.
