Mayank Agarwal has been selected captain of the Punjab Kings ahead of the 2022 IPL season, which begins on March 26.

Since 2018, Mayank has been a vital member of the Punjab Kings. He has served as the club’s vice-captain and led the team for a brief while last season,’ according to the team’s press release.

Following the 2021 season, Mayank was one of two players retained by the IPL franchise. Along with uncapped Arshdeep Singh, he was retained for Rs 12 crore.

“I’ve been with Punjab Kings since 2018, and I’m proud to be a part of such a terrific team. I am ecstatic to be given the responsibility of leading the team. I take on this duty with the utmost sincerity, but I also think that with the potential we have in the Punjab Kings squad this season, my work will be made simpler. We have a lot of experienced players on our team, as well as a lot of good young players who are eager to seize the opportunity and play with it,” Mayank spoke of his new captaincy role as posted by Punjab Kings’ official Twitter account.

“We’ve always gone into the game aiming to win the title, and as a squad, we’ll work hard to achieve our objective of winning our first IPL trophy. I am grateful to the team management for trusting me with this new duty as the side’s leader. I’m looking forward to the new season and the new difficulties it will bring,” he added. 

Since 2018, he has been a player of the Punjab Kings. Last season, he also served as the team’s interim captain.
