In a major setback for Mumbai Indians (MI), ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the first two weeks of IPL 2025 as he continues his recovery from a back injury. Reports indicate that the speedster will only join the MI camp in April, making him unavailable for at least the initial three games.
According to Times of India, Bumrah is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) and has resumed bowling, but he is yet to bowl at full intensity. His injury, sustained during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, also ruled him out of the Champions Trophy 2025.
A BCCI source mentioned that while Bumrah’s medical reports are satisfactory, his return to competitive cricket will depend on how his body responds to increased workload. “Unless he is able to bowl at full tilt without any discomfort for a few days, the medical team is unlikely to clear him,” the source stated.
As a result, Bumrah is expected to miss MI’s crucial opening matches, including their first home game at Wankhede Stadium against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 31. His absence will be a major concern for MI, who will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23.
