Rain continues to disrupt the ICC Women’s World Cup Final between India and South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, leaving fans anxiously waiting to know whether overs will be reduced. The toss has been delayed multiple times due to persistent showers, and despite several optimistic moments, the rain keeps returning.
At 15:55 local time (10:25 GMT), loud cheers rang around the stadium as covers came off and the sun peeked through. However, umpires continued inspecting the surface, and hopes rose for an on-time toss.
At 16:02 local (10:32 GMT), the umpires discussed conditions with both captains, assessing the outfield and surface. A call seemed imminent with plenty of conversations and gestures happening in the middle.
Minutes later, at 16:08 local (10:38 GMT), rain returned yet again. The covers came back on despite blue skies in patches, and super soppers resumed work to clear moisture.
Officials announced that the toss was scheduled for 4:32 PM local time, with first ball at 5 PM, with no overs lost at that stage.
However, as rain struck again close to the planned start, the match — originally expected to start at 5 PM — faced a fresh delay. Fans now await the next inspection to know whether this will remain a full 50-over contest or if overs will be cut.
Both teams remain in their dressing rooms, staying loose and waiting for the next update.
More to follow as situation develops.
