Wishes have been pouring in for Indian women’s team opener Smriti Mandhana as she celebrates his 24th birthday on Saturday, July 18.
In a short span of time, Smriti Mandhana has made quite a name for herself on the cricket field. The 24-year-old, who made her ODI debut in 2013 and Test debut in 2014, was the only Indian player to be named in the ICC Women’s Team of the Year in 2016.
Mandhana is considered as one of the best batswomen in the current generation and is even ranked No. 4 in ODI batting rankings and is the only Indian in the top 5 of the list. Mandhana has managed to score 2025 and 1716 runs in both the formats, including four tons in ODIs, which makes her a fearless batter.
Mandhana became the youngest player captain for India in the T20i format when she led India out against England in the first T20 International game in 2019.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named her as the Best Women’s International Cricketer in June 2018 and in the same year, International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded her with the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Award for the best female cricketer of the year.
Yuvraj Singh led the wishes for his fellow southpaw and talented fellow cricketer, Smriti Mandhana. He took to twitter to wish her on her special day. Further, the women’s team coach WV Raman and Indian star pacer, Jhulan Goswami wished her via their twitter handle as well.
Happy Birthday @mandhana_smriti. May you continue to excel and keep the Indian flag soaring with pride 🇮🇳 Left handers in the Indian team have a reputation of being very talented, keep that up 🤪 My best wishes #HappyBirthdaySmritiMandhana
