Cricket is an uncertain game, with every ball being potentially important to the outcome of the match. If a bowler’s foot crosses the crease even by an inch, it could cost the team the entire match. A similar case like this was visible during the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy Final, where Jasprit Bumrah’s vital no-ball delivery came under heavy criticism.
Newer rules by the ICC imply that a no ball not only costs the team a run but also gives the other team a free hit. Yet, there are some players who have never bowled a single no-ball in their career.
- Ian Botham: England’s great all-rounder Ian Botham, known for his flair and flamboyance, as well as ability to entertain the crowd never bowled a single no ball in his career of 102 tests and 116 odi matches for his country.
- Lance Gibbs: The West-Indian legend had an illustrious career playing 79 tests and 3 odis. He was the first spinner to reach the 300 test wickets mark, simultaneously being the only member of the elite club of spinners to have never bowled a no ball.
- Kapil Dev: India’s greatest ever all rounder, lead his nation to the infamous 1983 World Cup title by winning the final the the Lord’s Cricket Ground. Despite having played 131 tests and 225 odi’s, not once did Kapil Dev step past the line to cost his team even a single run.
- Imran Khan: Pakistan fast bowler and former captain was touted as one of the best bowler’s in the world. Having played 88 tests and 175 one day internationals, not only did Imran Khan lead his country to a maiden world cup title but also had the achievement of never bowling a career no ball.
- Dennis Lillee: Australian fast bowler is regarded as the most disciplined fast bowler of all-time. His technique and talent, led him to being regarded as the greatest bowler of all-time. He played 70 tests and 63 odis for his country but never bowled a no ball.
