England head coach Chris Silverwood says experienced pacer James Anderson, who is standing on the cusp of a historic 600th Test wicket, is constantly lending a helping hand to other bowlers in the team and is an “inspiration” for everyone.
The 38-year-old ended the fourth day of the ultimate Check between England and Pakistan a wicket wanting the elusive 600-wicket mark. On taking one wicket on the last day, he will become the first fast bowler to take 600 wickets and the fourth bowler in total. Before him, Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, and Anil Kumble have reached this stage but all three are spinners.
Anderson would have reached 600 wickets on the fourth day if wicketkeeper Jose Butler had not missed an easy catch. “It would have been disappointing for a bowler but you can only do what is necessary for you.” Jimmy did the same and he also got the reward. (In case of missing the catch) Jimmy behaved very well. Nobody wants to miss a catch but it is frustrating.” Silverwood said.
“We are all aware of Jimmy’s record and hope that he will succeed in achieving it.” It would be fantastic to see. He is an inspiration to all. 600 Test wickets are excellent. “He said,” He worked hard to reach this point and it is fantastic to reach here. He is constantly helping other bowlers. What can be a better thing that one of the best bowlers in the world is in our team and is representing his country. ” Silverwood told Sky Sports.
In the previous series against the West Indies, Stuart Broad became the seventh bowler to take 500 wickets in Test cricket. Silverwood said, “This is a big achievement. We have two bowlers taking more than 500 wickets and Jimmy’s approach is close to 600 wickets.
