India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant added yet another feather to his cap during the ongoing first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. Pant reached the landmark of 3000 Test runs during his gritty knock on Day 1, becoming only the fifth Indian wicketkeeper to achieve the feat. He got to the milestone in just 76 innings — second-fastest among all keepers after Australia’s Adam Gilchrist, who took only 63 innings.
Pant got to the landmark with a boundary off Chris Woakes in the 81st over. He reached his half-century shortly after in 93 balls, continuing his brilliant Test comeback.

At the time of reaching his milestone, Pant was unbeaten on 53 off 93 balls, alongside skipper Shubman Gill, who was batting on 119*. India stood strong at 338/3 in 80.5 overs, riding on a commanding 117-run partnership between the two.
The solid platform puts India in a commanding position after England chose to field first at the toss.
With Pant now surpassing Sarfaraz and eyeing Sangakkara’s mark, this Test series could prove to be a defining stretch in his red-ball career.
