#DhoniRetires became one of the top trends on Twitter as certain fans started spreading misinformation on Dhoni’s retirement. The Ranchi-born wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni has not played international cricket since India’s defeat to New Zealand in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup. Dhoni missed several series in the home season of 2019 and also missed the high-profile tour of New Zealand earlier this year.

However, the Indian team management, including head coach Ravi Shastri, did not rule out Dhoni’s chances of returning to the senior national team. Former chief selector MSK Prasad had said that they were looking beyond Dhoni and keen on giving chances to youngsters, especially Rishabh Pant.

Nevertheless, Dhoni geared up for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 which has been suspended until further notice due to the novel Coronavirus pandemic. On Wednesday evening, Twitter was flooded with a hashtag #DhoniRetires as fans assumed that the former Indian skipper caption is planning to take retirement.

Moreover, fans were not sure as to when would MS Dhoni be back on the cricket pitch. Amid this situation, several fans on social media started to spread false news of his retirement with #DhoniRetires, though the followers of MS Dhoni tried their best to fight against retirement rumours.
As the trend was escalating at very high speed, it made Mahi’s wife Sakshi Singh furious and it forced her to take to her Twitter to slam all those who indulged into spreading these rumours. However, just a few minutes after posting the tweet, she deleted it.

“Its only rumours ! I understand Lockdown has made people mentally unstable! #DhoniRetires .. Get a life ! Sakshi Singh Dhoni tweet read.’
