New Zealand, who had a brilliant ICC ODI World Cup campaign in India, is hoping they will adapt to Bangladeshi conditions easily during their two Test match series. The Kiwis were knocked out of the recent World Cup after a disappointing 70-run loss against India in the semi-finals.
The series will be Black Cap’s first World Test Championship cycle. Daryl Mitchell is all set to get off to a fast and fresh start to the competition and will be looking for a similar result as the emerging winners in 2021.
The team will play 14 tests during the current cycle and will be aiming to see themselves in the WTC final at Lord’s somewhere in the middle of 2025.
“We obviously know it is the end goal. That’s what every country taking part in the World Test Championship wants to do. For us, it is about making small goals. We are trying to tick off games as we go. First, we have to take on Bangladesh. It is always a tough challenge in Bangladesh,” Mitchell said.
He also mentioned that the foreign conditions might be a little challenging for the Kiwis to adapt to, but keeping in mind the Indian pitches, our approach would be a little similar.
“Conditions are foreign to us as Kiwis, so it is about adapting as quickly as we can to these surfaces and getting stuck to win little moments. It is what we are speaking about. We are not looking too far ahead. At the same time, you want to be part of those big games. That’s why you play Test cricket,” Mitchell added.
Bangladesh will host New Zealand for the Test Match Series, which will start on November 28.
