Here is the list of ‘Player of the Tournament’ in every edition of the T20 World Cup ahead of the 2024 tournament in the USA & West Indies.
The ninth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to entertain cricket fans from around the world as it will be held for the first time in the USA. The tournament will start on June 2 with the opener game between USA and Canada in Dallas.
In the inaugural 2007 season, Pakistan’s legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi was awarded the ‘Player of the Tournament’.
In the 2009 edition, Pakistan won the tournament, but Sri Lankan batter Tillakaratne Dilshan clinched the award.
In 2010, the award went to a player from the winning squad for the first time as England’s Kevin Pietersen claimed it.
Interestingly, Virat Kohli is the only player who has won the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award twice, in consecutive years 2014 and 2016.
In the previous 2022 edition, England’s Sam Curran was awarded the ‘Player of the Tournament’ trophy.
